2023 - 2024 will be the third year Mountain View High School has had a Mountain Bike Team!

Mountain Biking is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. It is growing rapidly in Arizona as well, with multiple mountain bike teams added yearly.

Why start a mountain bike team?

1. To continue Mountain View reputation as a leader in Sports.

2. To give kids another path to be part of a team and competition.

3. To teach life skills and improve the fitness of students.

4. To help raise awareness of the outdoors and the sport of mountain biking.

5. To share the love of Mountain biking with the next generation.

Mountain biking is FUN!! It promotes the outdoors, exercise, and fitness. It teaches life skills, such as respect for others and trails. It teaches endurance, hard work, critical thinking, coordination, cooperation, kindness, responsibility, determination, teamwork, etc. The list goes on and on! It is a lifelong sport that allows you to continue the sport well beyond your senior year in high school.

We sincerely hope the lessons they learn on the trail, with their friends and coaches, from pushing themselves to places they never thought possible, will carry on with them for the rest of their lives.

2023 - 2024 Season

Mountain biking is not yet a high school-sanctioned sport at Mountain View High School, so we are considered a club team that represents Mountain View High School at Races. We are a 501(c)3 corporation.

PRACTICE: Our official season begins on December 1, 2023, with registration and pre-season starting October 1, 2023. We will have a 3 day a week practice schedule.  Most practices will take place at  Hawes and Usery, as well as other areas to test our riders' skills and mix things up.  We will ride Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Of course, on occasion, there might be an impromptu ride.

RACES: There are at least four races scheduled this year with other Arizona High School Teams. Other races may be an option but will be scheduled when more information is available. Racing is optional but highly encourged.

Races are held in various locations throughout the state. They are a blast to attend. The atmosphere and vibe at races are electric with kids being cheered on by hundreds of spectators most of whom cheer for all the kids not just their own teams.  The cycling community is like that as well - we really are one big family.

Coaches & Volunteers

COACHES: Our coaches are all volunteers, most of whom are parents of Mountain View students, but we also have some awesome members of the cycling community that selflessly volunteer their time to work with our team.  We could not run this team without these amazing individuals.  All coaches are required to complete background checks and complete additional training through NICA in order to mitigate safety risks and create an equitable environment for all levels of riders at our practices.

VOLUNTEERS: We don't just have volunteer coaches. Many volunteers don't want to coach or ride but that is okay! If you do not want to coach, but want to help the team in some way, we can still use you for the following;

  • Organize the team schedule/practices

  • First Aid and nutrition

  • Create a Team Newsletter

  • Number Plate distribution

  • Pit set-up and tear down at races

  • Hydration/Nutrition support at races

  • Assist in awards and team parties

  • Out-of-town accommodations (checking on room blocks/discounts, available hotels, etc)

  • Compiling race results

Team Communication

Currently, all team communication and notifications will be done through the TEAMSNAP app. Please download teamsnap. Weekly rides and practice reminders will also be posted on our Strava group. Please join our Mountain View Strava Team and turn on your notifications.
